Illuminating the Value of Youth Friendly Spaces
San Francisco, CA

Working as a Teaching Artist leading an in-class design studio with over 200 San Francisco MLK Middle School students to date. The young people co-created a community-based MLK campus plan for sustainable youth-focused kiosk/mini pavilions. The young designers started with creating "Bio-Boards" to showcase the skills and aspirations they have for themselves and their community. Students learned how to draw and document inspirational building/element examples via an abridged building design process. The students used their drawings and inspirations, to design and build scaled models while learning the technical workings and integration of solar panels and lighting.
